Penalties and England

If you can learn to control your brain at key moments your game will be transformed.  How many times have England exited from the Big Competitions due to Penalty Shootouts.  How is it that top International Players, who routinely score penalties during the training session, so often fail when the eyes of the World are upon them.  Is it just that they are overcome by the crushing knowledge that, 'England expects....?' Well, that's part of it, but there's something else, another factor.  During dynamic, fast paced, ever changing games such as football, the brain has to be 'all systems go' in order to keep up with the pace.  When it comes to taking penalties - after the referee has stopped the game - the player taking the penalty needs to pause and make a brain shift.  He needs to summon up total concentration on the task in hand and give that kick; ONE POINTED ATTENTION. THIS IS A SKILL YOU CAN LEARN.
